2025年3月9日-12日までサンフランシスコで開催されたCROI2025にスカラシップを獲得して参加した当研究室の博士課程3年のBago Mussa Hassanさんからの報告です。
CROI2025: Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections held in San Francisco, California; March 9-12
Introduction: This conference brought together a diverse group of scientists, researchers, and professionals from around the world to present, discuss, and critique their investigations into the epidemiology and biology of human retroviruses and associated diseases.
Scholarship Achievement: I was honoured to receive a New Investigator Scholarship to attend the conference, awarded by CROI. The scholarship application process was highly competitive, with approximate 2000 abstracts submitted. I made sure my story was captivating clearly outlining how it aligns with the objectives of the conference. The scholarship covered the costs of registration and travel while Kumamoto University financed the costs of meals and accommodation, which allowed me to participate fully in the event.
Research Presentations and Achievements: During the conference, I had the opportunity to present my research on Extracellular vesicles’ miRNAs correlate with Inflammatory markers among PLWH receiving Antiviral therapy in Tanzania which focuses on how the miRNAs could be associated with the persistent nature of inflammation among HIV-treated individuals. The presentation was well-received, sparking interesting discussions and questions that provided valuable feedback. I was particularly pleased with the engagement from attendees, which allowed me to gain new perspectives and insights crucial for my research.
Interactions with Researchers Overseas: One of the most rewarding aspects of attending this conference was the opportunity to interact with international researchers. I engaged in meaningful discussions with experts from all over the world which broadened my understanding of global HIV/AIDS research trends and challenges. These conversations opened the door for potential future collaborations, and I have already initiated contact with several researchers to explore joint research opportunities.
Advice to fellow junior researchers
One should always strive to approach a scientific conference with the right mindset: preparation, openness to learning, and proactive networking which can greatly benefit your academic and professional development. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of every opportunity the event offers. Your involvement in the scientific community starts with one conference, but its impact can last for the entirety of your career.
