Internship Visit by Eva, Master’s Student from Kagoshima University (April 13–28)
From April 13 to 28, 2026, Ms. Eva, a master’s student from Kagoshima University, completed an internship in our laboratory. During her stay, graduate student Ms. Twilumba provided training in Sequence analysis and techniques for handling HIV viruses.
Ms. Twilumba has training experience at Nagoya Medical Center and is actively engaged in her research activities. This internship marked her first opportunity in Japan to take on a mentoring role, allowing her to reflect on her own research from a teaching perspective and gain new insights.
■ Comment from Twilumba
Teaching Eva greatly deepened my understanding and gave me a new perspective on my research, yielding invaluable insights. Her enthusiasm and eagerness to learn made this experience not only impactful for her but also profoundly meaningful for me.
■ Comment from Eva
Professor Takamasa Ueno, thank you very much for accepting me to train in your lab in Kumamoto University to gain experience in sequencing techniques and data analysis. Special thanks to my instructor Ms Twilumba Makene & Dr Mako Toyoda for their patient, hands-on guidance that was pivotal to my technical growth. I would also like to appreciate the entire team at Ueno Lab for their constant support and inputs they offered during this training. This experience has improved my basic research skills and I have also gained more technical skills in Sanger sequencing. I am eager to carry these skills forward and I look forward to the possibility of further collaborations as I continue my journey in research.
また、同時期には医学科の基礎演習として 鈴木君も来室しており、研究室は学生の活動で大変賑やかになりました。異なる背景を持つ学生同士が交流し、互いに学び合う活気ある期間となりました。
During the same period, Mr. Suzuki, a medical student participating in the basic laboratory training program, also joined the lab. Their presence made the laboratory particularly lively, fostering active interaction and mutual learning among the students.
