LA TROBE Uni. 金炎Jin Yan(D2)

2025年9月13日-9月22日

博士課程2年 金炎(Jin-Yan)さんがオーストラリアのLa Trobe 大学へ出張しました。

オーストラリア出張について金さんにインタビューをしました。

1.      What prompted you to go on this oversea business trip?

This trip to Melbourne, Australia, was arranged with the support of my laboratory. Overseas training is an important opportunity for researchers to broaden perspectives and build collaborative networks. I visited the Gras Laboratory, with whom our lab has an ongoing collaboration, to learn techniques and strengthen our partnership.

2.      What were the difficult parts of preparing for the trip?

As a Chinese student studying in Japan, applying for an Australian visa was the most difficult part. I was uncertain about the required documents and submission process. With the guidance of my laboratory, I successfully obtained the visa and was able to make the trip as planned.

3.      What did you gain from this business trip and how would you like to use it in your future?

During my one-week stay at the Gras Laboratory, I learned new skills in protein structure research, including expression and purification techniques. More importantly, I realized the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration and how it can lead to impactful discoveries. I also learned how long-term collaboration between Professor Motozono and Professor Gras resulted in major achievements, which inspired me to consciously develop my own research network. I plan to continue our ongoing joint projects and seek new directions for cooperation.

4.      What did you lack or wish you had prepared better before your overseas business trip? Based on that, do you have any advice for colleague?

I should have allowed more time for visa preparation, as I received the visa only one week before departure. My advice is to start early, prepare all documents carefully, and leave enough margin to avoid last-minute stress.
